T.D. Lee Undergraduate Summer Research Fellowship Program

Overview

The T.D. Lee Undergraduate Summer Research Fellowship Program is a new initiative to support University of Chicago undergraduate students pursuing mentored research with faculty in the Physical Sciences Division (PSD). The program is established in honor of former UChicago PhD student and Nobel Laureate T.D. Lee, whose pioneering contributions to particle physics have shaped generations of scientific inquiry. Timeline

  • Application Opens: November 16, 2026

  • Application Deadline: January 29, 2027

  • Decisions will be communicated in late February or early March

Requirements

  1. Curriculum Vitae

  2. Research Proposal (one page maximum); Be sure to include the name of your research mentor and their contact information and the start date and end date of your research project.

  3. Personal Statement (one page maximum); Briefly describe your intellectual interests in the project, any prior experience that has prepared you to pursue research, and how participation in this fellowship advances your academic and personal development goals.

  4. UChicago Transcript (unofficial transcript is acceptable)

  5. Letter from Your PI / Faculty Mentor (emailed separately)

Eligibility

  • First-, second-, or third- year student in the College

  • Conducting 10-weeks of full-time summer (between June - September) research with a faculty member in the Physical Sciences Division

  • Cannot be registered for any courses during the 10-week Fellowship

  • Cannot be combined with other summer research fellowship support
