MAE Career Opportunities Timeline
If you are interested in gaining research experience during your program, UChicago can help you secure on-campus research opportunities!
MAE students are encouraged to apply to the Griffin Applied Economics Incubator as Research Assistants and work on innovative, real-world research alongside faculty. Projects span a wide range of timely topics, including AI in the workplace, spatial dynamics, parental beliefs and child development, trust and decision-making in healthcare, and more.
Students will gain hands-on experience with the full research process in economics—helping shape research questions, working with data, and contributing to rigorous, policy-relevant studies. This is a unique opportunity to learn what scientific research in economics looks like in practice while building valuable skills for research-focused careers or doctoral study.
Applications will open in May 2026, and students will be accepted in Summer 2026.
Research Assistants will receive a $2,000 stipend and work approximately 10 hours for 4-6 weeks during Winter or Spring Quarters in 2027.
Based on the information you shared in the career survey, you will be matched with a career adviser, who has expertise in your area(s) of interest. Your career adviser will reach out to introduce themselves and invite you to schedule a virtual meeting in June.
