Legal Research and Writing Seminars & Competition

Students can prepare for law school by participating in the Legal Research and Writing Seminars & Competition during their undergraduate years. The seminars provide early exposure to Westlaw, a legal research tool used by employers and law schools. Mastering this platform early provides students with an advantage in the hiring and admissions processes. Students learn the basics of professional writing, including memos and appellate motions, through this series of experiences.

Students who wish to apply their skills can participate in the annual Legal Writing Competition. This group or individual experience invites students to explore a currently pending Supreme Court case and draft a judicial opinion on the matter.

Students can register for these programs during the school year through the Careers in Law newsletter and Handshake. Interested students can also complete this form to be informed when the registration opens!
